THE AMAZON'S LIQUID HIGHWAYS
The rivers of the Amazon—from the mighty main channel to the smallest blackwater tributaries—form the lifeblood of the rainforest. Our river safaris take you deep into this aquatic realm where water and forest merge, creating habitats found nowhere else on Earth and revealing wildlife impossible to encounter on land.
The Experience
Your river journey begins at dawn when mist rises from the water and wildlife gathers along the shores. In traditional dugout canoes modified for comfort but maintaining their silent approach, you'll glide through flooded forests where trees have evolved to spend half their lives underwater.
Accompanied by expert guides who can spot the slightest ripple indicating an approaching dolphin or the subtle signs of a giant otter family, you'll explore a maze of channels that change with the seasons. As darkness falls, our specialized night safaris reveal a different world—where black caimans' eyes glow red in our lights and nocturnal creatures emerge from daytime hiding.
When to Visit
The high-water season (January-May) allows access to flooded forests and igapó ecosystems, while the low-water season (August-November) concentrates wildlife along the main channels and exposes beaches where turtles nest.
